§ 6026. District Commissioners
(a) For the purposes of the administration of this chapter, the State is divided into
nine districts.
(1) District No. 1, comprising administrative district 1 as provided in 3 V.S.A. § 4001.
(2) District No. 2, comprising administrative district 2 as provided in 3 V.S.A. § 4001.
(3) District No. 3, comprising administrative district 3 as provided in 3 V.S.A. § 4001.
(4) District No. 4, comprising administrative district 4 as provided in 3 V.S.A. § 4001, excluding the towns of Addison, Bridport, Bristol, Cornwall, Ferrisburgh, Goshen,
Leicester, Lincoln, Middlebury, Monkton, New Haven, Orwell, Panton, Ripton, Salisbury,
Shoreham, Starksboro, Vergennes, Waltham, Weybridge, and Whiting.
(5) District No. 5, comprising administrative district 5 as provided in 3 V.S.A. § 4001.
(6) District No. 6, comprising administrative district 6 as provided in 3 V.S.A. § 4001.
(7) District No. 7, comprising administrative district 7 as provided in 3 V.S.A. § 4001.
(8) District No. 8, comprising administrative district 8 as provided in 3 V.S.A. § 4001.
(9) District No. 9, comprising the towns of Addison, Bridport, Bristol, Cornwall, Ferrisburg,
Goshen, Leicester, Lincoln, Middlebury, Monkton, New Haven, Orwell, Panton, Ripton,
Salisbury, Shoreham, Starksboro, Vergennes, Waltham, Weybridge, and Whiting.
(b) A District Environmental Commission is created for each district. Each District Commission
shall consist of three members from that district appointed in the month of February
by the Governor so that two appointments expire in each odd-numbered year. Two of
the members shall be appointed for a term of four years, and the Chair (third member)
of each District shall be appointed for a two-year term. In any district, the Governor
may appoint not more than four alternate members from that district whose terms shall
not exceed two years, who may hear any case when a regular member is disqualified
or otherwise unable to serve.
(c) Members shall be removable for cause only, except the Chair who shall serve at the
pleasure of the Governor.
