Office of the Sergeant at Arms
The Sergeant at Arms of the Vermont State House is elected by the members of the Legislature and plays an integral role in maintaining order and decorum in the building. In addition to various ceremonial duties, the Sergeant at Arms’ Office is responsible for assigning meeting rooms, taking/delivering messages for Legislators, running the Legislative Page program, supervising custodial staff, and operating the Capitol Police Department.

Legislative Page Program

After much deliberation and with regret, the decision has been made to cancel the legislative page program for 2021 due to the COVID-19 situation.
Use of the State House
Due to COVID-19, the decision has been made to cancel all scheduled bookings in the Card Room for the 2021 legislative session. Starting on January 2, 2021, the Sergeant at Arms’ office will take Card Room requests for the 2022 legislative session.
