Executive Order No. 19-5 (No. 02-15) [Governor’s Highway Safety Program]
WHEREAS, the Governor is responsible for administering the State’s Highway Safety
Program and may designate an appropriate agency and representative to implement the
program;
WHEREAS, the Governor’s Highway Safety Program currently resides at the Department
of Public Safety;
WHEREAS, since 2012, the Agency of Transportation (“VTrans”) has had a leadership
role in the formation of Vermont’s Highway Safety Alliance, and currently implements
highway safety improvements throughout the transportation network; and
WHEREAS, VTrans is now is required by Section 1203 of the Moving Ahead for Progress
in the 21st Century Act, Pub. L. No. 112-141 (2012) (“MAP-21”) to meet federal highway
safety performance measures and to implement a highway safety improvement program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Peter Shumlin, by virtue of the power vested
in me as Governor, do hereby designate the Agency of Transportation as the appropriate
agency to implement the State’s Highway Safety Program, and do further designate the
Secretary of Transportation as the Governor’s Representative for Highway Safety.
This Executive Order supersedes Executive Order 19-4 (codified as 02-03) dated March
20, 2003, on the same subject.
