Biography
ZON EASTES of Guilford, was born in Kansas, where he grew up in a large lower-middle-class, multi-generational family. A classically trained cellist and conductor, Zon holds degrees in music history and performance from the University of New Mexico and State University of New York at Stony Brook. Zon came to Vermont in 1982 (to work on an advanced, never-finished music degree), and moved to Guilford in 1985. He is a dedicated community leader with more than three decades of organizational management, community organizing, and public advocacy experience. Prior to election to the Vermont legislature, Zon served on the Guilford select board for five years (chair for three). He also served as Justice of the Peace for ten years. In the creative sector, Zon served as Director of Outreach and Advancement at the Vermont Arts Council for six years, where he led the establishment of the Vermont Creative Network. He has also been lead staffer for arts organizations in Brattleboro and Bainbridge Island (WA). An active volunteer, Zon has served on numerous community boards and initiatives over the years. He has also served on national commissions and networks, including for Americans for the Arts and the National Alliance of State Arts Agencies. Currently, Zon is music director of Juno Orchestra, a professional chamber orchestra based in Brattleboro. He also teaches cello at the Brattleboro Music Center.
