Biography
KENNETH LANCE WELLS was born in Newport, Vermont; the fifth generation of Vermonters tracing back to Liverpool, England. Wells was raised in Irasburg in a family of six and received his education from Irasburg Graded, Craftsbury Academy, Lake Region UHS and Lyndon State College. Ken spent project time as a slate roofer from San Francisco to Martha's Vineyard and other locations in New England. He spent time working for UPS before being a part of the ski industry at Jay Peak and Difini Ski wear. A standout three-sport athlete in high school and college, Ken coached soccer, basketball, and baseball for 12 years. He returned to his first career interest and committed to the newsprint and radio industry. Wells plied his trade for several newspapers including the Barton Chronicle, Caledonian Record, Burlington Free Press, and the Newport Daily Express. He sold advertising and covered news and sports as a photojournalist. He moved into the Editor seat before being named Publisher of The Newport Daily Express and The Sherbrooke Record in Quebec. He found time to work in the radio industry as a salesman, on air personality, host, and sports play-by-play person. Today, he continues his on-air sports broadcasting, working in video streaming for the Northeast Sports Network as well as the NFHS Network in Vermont and New England. In the summers, he calls car races and motorcycle events in Vermont and New Hampshire. With over 2,300 live broadcasts under his belt, he is regarded among the top play-by-play specialists in New England. Over the years, he has been part of many organizations including Orleans Lions Club, Vermont Hall of Fame Committee, and Newport Chamber of Commerce, to name a few, and he created the Red White and Blue summer boys and girls basketball camp. He is a 20-year member of the CMA and was voted the Vermont Media award by the Vermont Basketball Coaches Association in 2017. His interests include travel, muscle cars, motorcycles, concert events, and sporting events as well as lounging in the summers at one of Vermont's gems, beautiful Lake Willoughby in Westmore. Kenny has been married to his wife, Lori, for over 30 years and they have two children. His son Brandon, a UVM grad, is married and works for NIKE as script writer/producer. Their daughter Paige, a VTC graduate, is married and running her own business, Lady Canon. The Wells’s have one grandchild, Dakota Rose. Wells serves the towns of Barton, Brownington, Evansville, Orleans, and Westmore.
