- ROB HUNTER was born in Syracuse, New York, in 1964. He grew up in Attleboro, Massachusetts, and attended public school there. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in English at Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York. He later earned a master’s degree at Middlebury College’s Bread Loaf School of English. He began his teaching career in 1991 at the Linsly School in Wheeling, West Virginia. In 1996, he was hired by the then Burr and Burton Seminary, now Burr and Burton Academy, and he retired in 2023. At Burr and Burton, Rob served as the English Department Chair. He coached athletes in the school’s fitness center after school for 25 years; began the school’s first literary magazine, Between Ranges; and supervised many clubs and activities like the National Honor Society and the freshman mentors. At Burr and Burton, Rob won the Rowland Chair for Excellence in Teaching. Rob’s poetry has appeared in dozens of literary journals. Rob’s first volume of poetry, September Swim, was published in 2005; his second volume of poetry, Wild in the Dawn, was published in 2023. In 2012, he served as one of the editors of Vermont’s first all Vermont poetry anthology, Birchsong. Rob and his wife, Nancy, have two daughters.
