- SAMUEL DOUGLASS was born in Newport City and grew up in the nearby towns of Jay and North Troy. He comes from a multi-generational family with deep roots in the community. He attended Troy School, North Country Union Junior High School, and then North Country Union High School. While earning his degree at Johnson State College, he worked concurrently in food service, hospitality, and mental health. Outside of the legislature, he works for Lamoille County Mental Health Services as a Crisis Interventionist and for Great Northern Land Company as an Agent Associate. He manages a small online/retail business with his wife and operates an organic family farm/farmstand. They keep beehives, goats, chickens, and ducks. He currently serves on the Board of Civil Authority as a Justice of the Peace for the town of Troy, and previously served as a Lister for the town of Troy. When the legislature isn’t in session, he volunteers weekly with Meals on Wheels through Northeast Kingdom Council on Aging and volunteers on the Troy Town Revitalization Committee. He plays classical piano and violin, and his hobbies include reading, collecting books, writing, coin collecting, fishing, and painting.
