- Seth B. Bongartz of Manchester is a Democrat representing the Bennington Senate District. His election to the House in 2020 marked the beginning of his third stint in the legislature, having previously served in the House from 1981 – 1985 and the Senate from 1987 – 1989, when he did not seek re-election because of the pending birth of a child. An attorney, he spent 11 years practicing law until taking the job as president of Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home in Manchester, which he and his dedicated staff transformed from a house museum to a 412-acre, world-class cultural heritage site. He retired at the end of 2019 after 18 years. He is currently a principal in the consulting firm of Gubb & Bongartz, which focuses on helping nonprofits reach their full potential. He served for 19 years on the board of Burr and Burton Academy, his final 15 years as chair. He is a founder and current chair of the Northshire Community Land Trust. He has served for 22 years and is the current chair of Grow America, a nationwide nonprofit with the mission of bringing economic opportunity to all.
