ALYSSA BLACK of Essex is a respected health care administrator, small business owner, mother, and community advocate currently serving her third term in the Vermont State Legislature. She currently serves as Chair of the House Health Care Committee. Born and raised in Fredonia, New York, Alyssa moved to Vermont in 1990. Her family settled in Essex in 1995, where all three of their children graduated from the local public school system. With more than 25 years of experience working in healthcare administration at a family practice that serves over 16,000 area residents, Alyssa is a trusted advocate for health care reform and the importance of primary care. Her leadership and dedication have earned her the Vermont Medical Society’s Citizen of the Year award twice. As a legislator, she has been the lead sponsor of key bills focused on gun violence prevention, suicide prevention, and health system reform. Alyssa is also a small business owner as an active partner in an automotive repair shop, Essex Automotive, where she manages the financial and administrative sides of the operation.
