- Biography
- MAIDA F. TOWNSEND of South Burlington, Chittenden County, is serving her third term in the Vermont House. She is a retired teacher, who tutors all ages in French. She taught novice to advanced French at West Rutland High School, Vergennes Union High School, and Winooski High School. She was also licensed to teach, and did teach at times during her career, English and Spanish in addition to French. She was president of Vermont-NEA and Chair of the Vermont State Democratic Party. She has served on numerous governing boards, including the Regional Laboratory for Educational Improvement of the Northeast and Islands, BlueCross/Blue Shield of Vermont, Winooski Dollars for Scholars, and ACLU-VT. During her mother's journey with Alzheimer's, she had responsibility for her mother's household and care, and subsequently, her estate. She has been a volunteer county coordinator and driver for the American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery program. Her personal time goes into figure skating, playing the French horn, and gardening.
