- GARY VIENS of Newport, Orleans County, Republican was born in Newport, Vermont, and raised in North Troy, Vermont. He attended the North Troy Graded School and graduated from North Country Union High School. Gary worked for 32 years in Law Enforcement, starting with the Newport Police Department in and retired from the U.S. Border Patrol as a Deputy Chief Patrol Agent. He is a past member of the North Country Junior and Senior High School Board. He also coached youth football in Newport. He is a past member of the Orleans County Court Diversion Board. He is a past member of the Orleans County Drug Free School Committee. He was a volunteer driver for the Disabled American Veterans. He has been a member of the Newport Elks for the past 26 years.
