Biography
MARJORIE RYERSON, is an award-winning book author, journalist, photographer, teacher, and poet. In addition to representing the Orange-Washington-Addison district in the State House, she serves on Randolph's Selectboard. From 1991 until 2005, she was a professor of nonfiction writing and photography for Castleton State College. While teaching there, she won the best new teacher award, and, ten years later, the Faculty Fellow award for the entire Vermont State College system. In addition to teaching at Castleton State, she also taught writing for Johnson State College and Green Mountain College. For the past 25 years, each May, Marjorie has taught poetry for Middlebury College at the New England Young Writers Conference at Bread Loaf. Marjorie additionally has worked as a photojournalist and/or editor for The Times Argus, the Boston Globe, the Burlington Free Press, Women's Day, The Valley News, Vermont Life magazine, Country Living, The White River Valley Herald, Country Courier, The Vanguard Press, The South-North News Service, The Berkeley University Wellness Letter, the Vermont Council on the Arts Artsletter, American Forests, and other publications. She currently edits nonfiction books for NEARI Press, and previously has edited for Oxford University Press, Random House, Inner Traditions, and Safer Society Press, where she served as editorial director. She holds an MFA from the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop, and is the mother of a daughter and a son. She loves to hike, kayak, and sail. Address: PO Box 44, Randolph, VT 05060.
