BARBARA RACHELSON of Burlington (since 1991), Democrat, was born July 25, 1957, in Glen Ridge, NJ, and grew up in North Caldwell, NJ. She attended West Essex High School, Brandeis University (BA, sociology, 1978) and University of Michigan (MSW in policy and planning, 1979). She is married and the mother of Isaac and Aviva Loeb. She is Executive Director of Lund since 1997 and has 30 years' experience working in nonprofit organizations, which includes: Executive Director, Michigan Network of Runaway and Youth Services; Director of Outpatient Services, The Counseling Service of Addison County; Program Development Director, Spectrum Youth Services; and Program Director, DTA (runaway /homeless youth shelter in Detroit). She was a legislative aide, Michigan House of Representatives Judiciary Committee; LBJ intern, Congressman Joseph Minish (NJ), and an intern for the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Juvenile Delinquency. Barbara has served on the boards of Fletcher Allen Health Care, the Vermont Children's Forum, the Michigan Coalition for Children and Families (chair) and the Michigan Coalition for Juvenile Justice Reform (cochair). She was appointed and served on the Vermont Committee for Child, Adolescent, and Family Mental Health; and the Ann Arbor Human Rights Commission. She is a fieldwork instructor at UVM School of Social Work and a former fieldwork instructor for the University of Michigan and Michigan State University Schools of Social Work.
