Biography
MAIDA F. TOWNSEND of South Burlington, Chittenden County, is a retired teacher, who tutors all ages in French. I taught novice to advanced French at West Rutland High School (1966-1969), Vergennes Union High School (1970-1981), and Winooski High School (1989-2008). I was also licensed to teach, and did teach at times during my career, English and Spanish in addition to French. I was president of Vermont-NEA (1981-1989) and Chair of the Vermont State Democratic Party (1991-1995). I have served on numerous governing boards, including the Regional Laboratory for Educational Improvement of the Northeast and Islands (1985-1992), Blue Cross/ Blue Shield of Vermont (1989-1993), Winooski Dollars for Scholars (1996- 2008), and ACLU-VT (2002-2011). During my mother's journey with Alzheimer's (2008-2010), I had responsibility for her household and care, and subsequently, her estate. Since January 2009, I have been a volunteer county coordinator and driver for the American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery program. My personal time goes into fi gure skating, playing the French horn, and gardening. My little dog Sissy is my 'rock DEBBIE G. EVANS of Essex Town, Chittenden County, Democrat, was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania on 27 July 52, and has lived in Essex for 34 years. She was educated in elementary and high school in West Newton, Pa. She attended Carlow University in Pittsburgh, Pa. and graduated with a BS degree in Speech and Hearing Pathology in 1974. She has worked as a Speech and Language Pathologist in Pittsburgh, NY, and Vermont. Debbie is married to Edward Evans for 35 years, and they have three grown sons, Paul, Andrew, Don and a grown daughter, Paige and a 6 year old grand daughter, Helen Mae and a 1 year old grand daughter, Guenevere. Debbie is a member of the Essex Board of Civil Authority and is a Justice of the Peace. She is currently a member of Essex Rotary, St. Pius Parish Council and Essex Children's Choir Board of Directors. She is a Trustee of the Essex Free Library. She is a past recipient of the Essex Educator's Association Award. Member of the House 2005-2006, 2007-2008, 2009-2010, 2011-2012.
