- ABBEY DUKE was born and raised in Grinnell, Iowa. She got a B.A. in Biology from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN, and made her way to Vermont in 1994. She worked as a field biology technician, a newspaper journalist, and a content marketer before founding her own catering company in 2003. Sugarsnap began as a prepared foods store on Riverside Avenue in Burlington with a farm in the Intervale. She has spent the last 21 years growing and adapting Sugarsnap to become the largest off-premises caterer in Chittenden County. She did this by focusing on partnerships with other businesses and nonprofits. She has served on the Burlington Parks Commission and on the Board of Directors for the Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility. She enjoys cross country skiing, pickleball, tennis, gardening, and hiking. Abbey lives in Burlington, VT, with her partner, Sue Chayer, and their two teen-aged children.
