Office of Legislative Council

The Office of Legislative Council provides the General Assembly with legal advice and bill drafting services; administrative committee and operations support; and information technology services. The office is composed of three divisions:

Legal: The 20 attorneys provide legal legislative services on a nonpartisan basis to all members, all committees, and to both chambers of the General Assembly. Services include the drafting of bills, amendments, and resolutions; research and analysis of legal issues; and research and analysis of policy issues. The legal staff also oversees the editing and publication of Vermont Statutes Annotated.

Operations: The 28 member operations staff manages the business operations of the General Assembly, provides editing and drafting support for the attorneys, and committee support services for all committees.

Information Technology: The information technology staff has 6 members who provide technology design, maintenance, and support for the entire General Assembly.
